INTERNATIONAL LUNAR OBSERVATORY ASSOCIATION, UPDATE NOVEMBER 2011: ILO-X PRECURSOR, ILO-1 POLAR, AND ILO HUMAN SERVICE MISSIONS
![]()
I. ILOA
ILOA is an interglobal enterprise incorporated in Hawaii as a 501(c)(3) non-profit to help realize the multifunctional ILO to advance human knowledge of the Cosmos through observation from our Moon, and to participate in lunar base build-out. ILOA currently has 3 lunar missions in various stages of development.
I.I ILO-1
ILOA intends to land a multifunctional dish observatory near the South Pole of the Moon NET 2014 to conduct astrophysical Galaxy observations as well as observations of the lunar environment and long-term, full-disk Earth observations. The lander will also pioneer Lunar Commercial Communications including broadcasting Space Calendar from the Moon. SpaceDev (now Sierra Nevada Corp.) conducted four feasibility studies on the mission (2003-2008). Prime Contractor MDA of Canada has also completed a pre-Phase A study and a Payload Definition Program on the ILO-1 mission.
I.II ILO-X: Precursor Mission
ILOA's Precursor Mission now being designed by Intek / Moon Express, will demonstrate astronomical and other observation and communication techniques. Mission may be carried aboard Moon Express's inaugural mission of scientific and commercial payloads, destined for lunar South Pole in pursuit of the Google Lunar X Prize.
I.III ILO Human Service Mission
ILOA's Human Service Mission, with studies completed in 2005 and 2006 by SpaceDev, now Sierra Nevada Corp., and advanced by Benson Space Company in 2007, is being planned as part of an independent-national-international science and commerce collaboration to service and support the ILO/s and parallel robotic village facilities, by 2015-2020, and emerging lunar base settlements.
II. GALAXY FORUM
Initiated through the International Lunar Observatory Association ‘Galaxy First Light Imaging Program’, a series of Hawaiian, American and International Galaxy Forums exploring Galaxy Education / Galaxy Enterprise in the 21st Century are producing a substantial and identifiable Galaxy Forum Architecture – to advance 21st Century education, science and astronomy, exploration and enterprise, commerce and development.
2010-2015 Galaxy Forums to advance 21st Century Education are being held in Hawai‘i, California, Kansas, Canada, China, India, and Europe, with upcoming plans for Japan, New York, Russia, South Africa, South America, and Antarctica, amongst others. Teachers and educators at all levels participate with intent to introduce to their students and classrooms Galaxy awareness and consciousness — knowledge and understanding of humanity’s place in the Galaxy and Universe, as well as in the Solar System and geographically here on Earth. This enhanced 21st Century understanding of our expanded Galaxy reality naturally enhances our recognition of this new environment’s expanded opportunities.
Galaxy Forums can be held in any community on Earth (and eventually beyond) in which any enterprising individual/s take initiative. All the resources from the Hawaii, USA National, and International ILOA Galaxy Forum series — now in its 4th year and developing globally in the 10-20 areas above — can be used and engaged: speakers and presentations; planning and logistics know-how, contacts and experience; finance, contributor and philanthropy identification for multi-million dollar ventures.
